10 Steps to a Happier You (that don’t involve waking up at 4am).

Who doesn’t want to look and feel fresh, happy and healthier Every.Single.Day?

What about graceful & natural aging with healthy skin without the need to wake up at 4am? Well, it can be achieved without dropping a ton of money and it can happen naturally! What you must do is persevere and over the course of four weeks, you will begin to look and feel nurtured, nourished and loved. Here's how;

  1. Sleep, sleep, sleep…getting the right amount of restful sleep your body needs nightly will reflect in the state of your skin and mind. Seven to eight hours is generally adequate for the body to rejuvenate. Not enough sleep over a period of time will result in problems that will show on your skin and set off a domino effect of the body finding it harder to do its job. Looking tired with dull and dry skin can be avoided! Be in bed by 9.30 and asleep by 10pm so your body can regenerate.
  2. The food you eat is of the utmost importance for healthy, clear skin! Make sure you are getting a good amount of good fats including avocado, fish and nuts. Add plenty of steamed vegetables daily and 2 pieces of in season fruit per day. Eating good quality red meat, chicken and fish has its benefits 2-4 x a week (unless you are vegan or vegetarian of course) and plant foods are the bomb for all their phytonutrients.
  3. Do you know most people are constipated? You need to drink roughly around 25mls for every kg of your body weight. Most will be surprised how much this may actually be (and will vary depending on your exercise, climate and work). Caffeinated, sugary drinks and alcohol is not included as part of the water or fluid intake but herbal teas can be. So get that water bottle out and break it down to know how much to drink by 9am, noon and 4pm to get your body hydrated (and bowels too!)
  4. For your skin, keeping it clean is your first priority! You must cleanse your face morning and night with a gentle cleanser that not only rids the skin of dirt and grime but also is kind to the skin microbiome, which is a really important part of the skin surface barrier. No harsh foaming cleansers that leave your skin feeling tight.
  5. After cleansing the skin, follow up with the routine that works for you. It may include a mask, a serum, a moisturiser and sunscreen. Remember what works for someone else (or an Instagram influencer) does not mean it will work for you.  Take notice of the steps that help bring out the best in your skin and if they aren’t working for you stop doing them!
  6. Use a loofah or body brush standing in the shower before you turn the water on. Start at your feet and work the brushing technique in an upward motion towards the heart. This helps eliminate toxins to the lymphatic glands for them to be eliminated. For the upper body work the skin towards the armpits or the groin. Once the showering is underway, once a week use some Beach Rd Naturals Body Scrub, the organic coconut oil & kaffir lime is an invigorating start to the day
  7. Get out into the fresh air and take a walk, do a YouTube yoga class, swim, ride a bike, and have fun! The exercise will boost your system and your skin will love it.
  8. Take a fish oil supplement daily. Cultures that eat a lot of fish have clearer skin and the fish oil helps eliminate toxins from the body and by now you know that is fantastic for your skin! Check out Miss Vitality’s Good Oil supplements that are designed by a naturopath to be part of your daily routine.
  9. Write in a journal to get your thoughts onto paper. They can be the things you are planning or, worrying about or the things you are really thankful for. Don’t overthink it, just start writing and see what happens.
  10. Laughter is magic for the soul and helps your nervous system to be more relaxed. When the nervous system is not in fight and flight (the sympathetic nervous system) it has greater blood flow and carries the nutrients to where they are needed.
So wake up when it suits you and your routine, and remember to make time for the lifestyle changes that will see you on your way to being happier every single day!
